Watch a marathon: course, access and meeting points

A road race can be watched from several course points. Runner registration and supporter access give different rights; plan the two routes separately.

Start, finish and spectators

In Berlin, the organiser distinguishes the participants-only start/finish zone from spectator areas. A city name or finish-line landmark is therefore insufficient to locate a permitted entrance. Open the spectator map for the edition you will visit.

Choose a viewing point before chasing the course

Identify the kilometre marker, road side and a station reachable without crossing the race. For several viewing points, check the route despite closures. Do not derive a passing time from an average finish: start waves and individual pace change that estimate.

Check accessible viewing areas

An accessible viewing point can be separate from a standing grandstand. Do not assume every course point is accessible; check the platform, ramp and entrance on the local organiser’s page.

Arrange the post-race meeting

Choose a location outside the finish chute and share it before the start. The athlete must still leave restricted areas; allow a buffer and a fallback if phones or transport are unavailable. Use the organiser’s meeting point when provided rather than an improvised finish-line meeting.

Questions before booking

Does a bib allow a companion into restricted areas?

No. Check runner rights and spectator areas separately.
